Thorns scores an ace with tennis legends
Thorns Group was the ‘glass’ act at two high-profile tennis tournaments starring legends including John McEnroe and Martina Hingis.
The leading furniture and catering hire specialist supplied thousands of items of glassware to two prestigious ‘Masters’ events staged in Liverpool and Manchester.
The team from Thorns Furniture and Catering Hire, a division of Thorns Group, provided a range of champagne tulips, wine goblets, slim jims and whisky glasses to its client White Events for use at the ICAP Liverpool International Tennis Tournament 2010.
Held at Calderstones Park, it claimed to be the largest tennis exhibition tournament staged in Europe, with a 3,500-seat grandstand, Tennis Village and a Corporate Marquee. The event, which took place from the 16-20 June, also had a multi-sports schools programme involving over 3,000 local children.
Tennis stars from the ATP and WTA tour, including the legendary John McEnroe, took part.
Thorns has also provided a wide range of glassware at the Manchester Masters, being held at the Northern Lawn Tennis Club on the 23-26 June. Former world champions Martina Hingis and Richard Krajicek are among those who have been gracing centre court as the ‘Wimbledon of the North’ returns to Manchester. Other stars including Mansour Bahrami, Mikael Pernfors and Jeremy Bates are joining the tournament.
Clair Whitecross, Thorns’ Group Sales Director, said: “Our Perception and traditional glassware ranges proved to be really popular suiting the ambience of the tournaments. With some of the greatest legends in the tennis world, Thorns is proud and privileged to be part of these two fantastic events.”
Thorns is no stranger to providing equipment to high-profile tennis tournaments including being a long-term supplier to the world-famous Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships and AEGON Championships (formerly known as the Stella Artois Championships).
