I hope this communication finds both you and your families in good health as we endeavour to maintain our social distance.

Nationwide measures to contain Covid-19 have caused nothing short of a cataclysm across the event industry. We have all been faced with agonising situations and impossible choices, with little control over what might happen in the weeks ahead.

I have been encouraged by the sheer volume of members who have turned to ESSA in the past 4-6 weeks for support, advice and clarity. It says to me that we are operating as an effective network and supporting each other when support and help are most needed. It is a cliché of our current predicament, but also a key mantra of ESSA over the past 13 years, that we are stronger together, and the greater the bonds we build during times of adversity, so our chances of overcoming present challenges increase.

I want you to know that, at ESSA, we have not, and will not, waver in the face of supporting your business, regardless of the current state of play. From daily telephone, email contact and legal, HR and accounting helplines, to ongoing Government lobbying, in addition to the daily updates to our ‘Corona Support’ zone on the ESSA website, we are focused on providing as much benefit and support as possible to our members.

Our collaboration with our sister associations the Association of Event Organisers (AEO) and Association of Event Venues (AEV) will continue to pay dividends for our members and the wider sector as we bring the key stakeholder groups together to help enact the key delivery of the Autumn season.

Whilst the situation may seem impossible, we must stay resolute and make the right decisions with the best advice and information at hand. It has never been more important to have a strong, united and determined association, and we will do our utmost to help and advise you in any way we can. The coming weeks and months will be a severe trial for the whole country, and I truly wish every member the best.

For members most in need, please talk to us. It’s important to stay together at this time, and we will not be leaving any member behind.

With best wishes,

Martin
