ESSA is at the start of a long journey, one we understand has no real end date.

It has been identified for some time that our industry was developing a bit of a problem with regard to attracting new talent.

Whether this be people straight out of school, colleges and universites or people who are looking to simply transition from one industry and find a new and exciting world to work in.  The top and bottom of it was that collectively we hadn't really done enough over the years and as an industry we've somewhat dropped down the pecking order when it comes to a young persons career choices.

We're actively working to change this trend from the bottom up.

With our support, we're working with members and the wider industry in communicating how great and varied our industry is to work in. Finding your way into our industry by accident seems to be an accepted norm but not a plan for a sustainable future.  We need to be proactively growing, developing and investing in creating our own workforce to support our sector for decades to come.

Big task that requires small steps.

For a number of years we have been reaching out to schools, colleges, universities and apprenticeship providers.  Our initial ground work has led to ESSA becoming an official partner of Lincoln University (last sector specific degree in exhibition design) and sitting on numerous industry working groups and task forces as advisors.  It also led to the creation of the ESSA Future Focus Board.  We want to support your business on your journey.

We have created various resources to help promote our sector and the oportunities available. These are freely available for you to use.

The road of opportunity: Upskilling and developing the events industry.

In collaboration with Event Apprenticeships, ESSA recently held the following webinar for it's members to exploring apprenticeships within the industry.

This session aims to promote the awareness and diverse use of apprenticeships. It will clarify how to get funding, and how to use apprenticeships to skill, upskill and develop teams and individuals, proving that apprenticeships are for all levels of career development. It will also provide an opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and understanding of the importance of building an apprenticeship programme to drive social mobility, diversity, inclusion and belonging. This will build understanding how apprenticeships play a key part in developing and upskilling the workforce and how they build businesses back stronger.
