Harrogate event services company Joe Manby Limited is supporting local charity Henshaws capital appeal by donating its expertise to help stage a fundraising art exhibition and auction.

The event, at Rudding Park in March, is part of a campaign to raise money for the expansion of Henshaws’ Arts and Crafts Centre in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire which celebrated its 21st anniversary last year.

Demand for the centre has grown substantially and it now supports more than 175 people with sensory impairments, autistic spectrum conditions, physical and learning difficulties and healthcare needs each week. The Art Makers at Henshaws are encouraged to use creative arts to help develop independent skills, express themselves and communicate.

Joe Manby Limited, which provides event services to organisers and exhibitors at major venues throughout the UK, is donating its exhibition display panels, as well as its expertise, to showcase original artworks in a professional and accessible way. On display will be paintings and sculptures from Henshaws’ students as well as work by other artists. There will also be an auction of high-value works.

The Advisory Panel which selected the artworks includes the Antiques Roadshow’s Adam Schoon, Joe Dunning from Sotheby’s and art consultant and curator Heidi Donohoe.

Distinguished art historian and television presenter Dan Cruikshank will be presenting at the event, with Joe Dunning from Sotheby's the evening's official auctioneer.

Sarah Martin, Appeal Manager at Henshaws said: “The Capital Appeal is a once in a generation opportunity to establish the Arts and Crafts Centre at the forefront of disability support and its expansion will be a lasting legacy.  When we opened in 1998, we supported just 50 individuals. Supporting so many more art makers has placed a strain on our buildings and facilities and we now also support people with a wider range of disabilities and needs.

“We urgently need to update the centre to reflect these changes and ensure we give people with disabilities confidence and choice in their own lives.  We’re delighted to have Joe Manby Limited’s support and expertise to help this special event run smoothly.  All money raised will help support even more people with disabilities to express their creativity, cultivate friendships, increase independence and grow confidence.”

Richard Manby, director at Joe Manby Limited said: “We’re proud to play our part in supporting a great local charity’s fund-raising efforts and we trust the event will be a huge success for such a good cause.”

The invitation-only exhibition and auction will take place on Thursday 12 March at Rudding Park Hotel, Harrogate at 6.30 pm. A drinks reception will be followed by interviews with the artists.

Artwork will also be available to purchase online pre-event from mid-February at www.henshawsarts.org.uk
