The Showman’s Show – the UK’s original and most comprehensive exhibition of products, services and entertainment for the festival, outdoor and special event industry – has chosen GCS.

This marks a significant step forward in The Showman’s Show’s sustainability journey, building on the positive initiatives already implemented in recent years.

All exhibitors can make a submission to the GCS Event Project Build Carbon Calculator prior to the show opening, but data can be reviewed and finalised post-event.

Green Circle Solutions will provide its Event Carbon Calculator to the team at The Showman’s Show, which enables detailed reporting of carbon emissions from exhibitor builds, logistics and operational activity. The calculator uses the latest DEFRA and DESNZ emissions factors and aligns with the GHG Protocol, helping event organisers, exhibitors and suppliers track and reduce their impact with confidence.

Exhibitors and stand builders play a crucial role in determining the true environmental impact of an event, with build and logistics often accounting for a significant share of emissions. By actively engaging these stakeholders and collecting data at scale, The Showman’s Show is taking a leadership position within the industry — setting a new standard for transparency and collaboration in measuring a full event carbon footprint.

David Humphreys, Director at Green Circle Solutions, said: “We’re delighted to partner with The Showman’s Show on this important initiative. This approach sets a strong example for the sector and shows how practical tools like ours can empower event professionals to embed sustainability into their planning and delivery.”

The partnership underscores the growing recognition across the events sector that measuring impact is a vital part of driving long-term sustainability performance.

Taking place on 22 & 23 October 2025 at Newbury Showground, Berkshire, the show attracts an average of over 4000 attendees and 300 exhibiting companies.

The Showman’s Show has made significant strides in embedding sustainability into its operations over the past decade including promoting low-carbon travel through Liftshare, free shuttle buses from Newbury Station, and a partnership with Onboard Earth to balance visitor, crew and staff travel emissions through renewable energy and tree planting projects.

The event is zero waste to landfill and has cut total waste from 17 tonnes in 2014 to just 6 tonnes in 2024. Single-use cups have been replaced with reusables via ReUz, and leftover materials, if any, are repurposed with Event Cycle. Energy use has been halved over the past decade, with power supplied by a mix of mains electricity and Green D+ HVO fuel. Water use has also dropped significantly, supported using a proportion of composting loos across the site & water saving measures. These changes demonstrate the Show’s long-standing commitment to measurable, meaningful sustainability.

Concluded Johnny Lance, Event Director at The Showman’s Show: “This marks the next major milestone on our sustainability journey. We know that achieving meaningful carbon reductions starts with better data — and that takes time, education, and greater awareness across the industry. Exhibitors and stand builders are a vital part of the picture, and we recognise that encouraging disclosure and understanding are key to driving long-term change. As one of the leading events in our sector, we have a responsibility to lead by example and help build the knowledge and momentum needed to reduce our collective impact.”
