The European Standards Organisations CEN and CENELEC have agreed that the BSI will remain a full member after 29th March 2019 even if there is a ‘no deal’ scenario.

This has important implications for standardisation particularly regarding compliance with safety standards mandated by an EU directive which allows manufacturers to affix CE marks.

The practice of sending UK experts to sit on standing committees considering new or updated standards will also continue meaning that the UK will continue to participate in the setting of these standards. It should mean that the contracting sector should continue to be able to supply and use equipment at events in the EU without falling foul of EU equipment compliance requirements post Brexit.
