The journey to more sustainable events
Sustainability within the events industry – it’s a topic that’s on everyone’s agenda. But it’s also a subject that can raise more questions than answers.
“What exactly is our carbon footprint? How do we reduce it in the long term? And is this achievable while maintaining a return on investment?”
There are no easy answers. But what’s clear is that everyone involved in the organisation of events has their own part to play.
Moving from awareness to action
It was encouraging to see sustainability feature so heavily at the last ESSA Conference, with event organisers and suppliers in agreement that serious changes are needed. But, there’s still a long way to go when it comes to limiting the impact of the average event.
Every organisation is different. But there are a few common things we can do to reduce waste and limit energy consumption as an industry. These are practical, lasting changes that can be easily adopted. We’ve listed them on our blog in an article titled ‘7 simple ways to host more sustainable events this year.’
