As UK manufacturing faces renewed pressure, T3 Systems marks over 40 years of designing and building modular display systems domestically — and two Queen's Awards for Enterprise along the way.

British manufacturing has spent much of the last two decades on the back foot, with production steadily moving offshore across many sectors. The events supply chain has not been immune — a growing share of display hardware is now imported rather than made domestically.

T3 Systems has taken the opposite path. Founded in 1981, the company has designed, engineered and manufactured its modular display system in-house for more than four decades — today from facilities in the UK and France — rather than outsourcing production abroad. That long-term commitment to domestic manufacturing has been recognised with two Queen's Awards for Enterprise, among the highest formal honours a British business can receive.

The advantages of keeping design and manufacturing under one roof go beyond national pride. Control over production means tighter quality standards, shorter and more resilient supply chains, faster turnaround for clients, and the ability to hold significant stock domestically — all of which matter acutely in an industry defined by immovable show deadlines. When a build has to be ready on a fixed date, a supply chain that runs through the same building rather than around the world is a meaningful operational advantage.

There is a sustainability dimension too. Manufacturing closer to the point of use reduces freight distances and the emissions that come with them, and it supports the kind of durable, repairable, long-lifecycle products that a more circular events economy depends on — the opposite of low-cost, short-life imported hardware.

Four decades on, the case that domestic manufacturing is worth protecting is arguably stronger than ever — for quality, for resilience, for sustainability and for the skilled jobs it sustains. More on the company's history and manufacturing approach is available via T3 Systems.
